Court vs Science
Long ago, the use science of in
agriculture was not that widespread, but through time our farmers found it
helpful in their work of origin. Before us is an issue of the Temporary
Restraining Order (TRO) against Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO),
particularly, the Bt Talong. Bt talong is defined by the International Service
for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications (ISAAA) as a common soil
bacterium that contains a gene which produces a protein harmful pests that
destroys eggplant crops.
The plain understanding of the
use of GMO is that, it is a process wherein a chemical is used to improve
crops. First, we must weigh things in order for us to think whether the courts
should interfere with the use of GMO. The advantages of GMO is that it
preserves the quality of crops, makes it pest resistant and gives it a better
quality. However, GMOs are also found to be dangerous to human health causing
cancer and other diseases because it contains a great number of chemicals which
may be very harmful to humans. By this analyzations, we may conclude that the
court’s interference is necessary to tackle the dispute. The government as the
parent of the state, should always be observant and show strict authority to
its people. The best interest of the public must always be put into
consideration. According to scientists, not all GMOs are harmful to humans, it
may be harmful to pests but it doesn’t mean that we also generalize the effect
of GMOs to human. Some GMOs have a negative effect on humans but some of them
are just ordinary crops that doesn’t give us any harmful effects. The issue on
GMO is a serious matter because it may endanger humanity. The court’s decision
to put TRO against GMO is correctly made. The long period of use of GMO alarmed
our government because of its negative effects. It fears that the GMOs may
greatly affect our economy, agriculture and the human being. Our court should meticulously study about the
matter because whenever the court interferes into issues involving our country,
its people are obliged to submit to its authority.
There is a saying that “We are what we eat,” if we want to have
a longer life span, we should be observant on what we eat. Our government is
indeed responsible for the welfare of its people but we in ourselves should be
vigilant especially to anything that we consume. GMOs may be beneficially to
our country because it assures farmers the good harvest and gives them the
opportunity to import their crops and make a good living. However, we should
think of the circumstances of whatever actions we make because it may greatly
affect our lives.
