Never Ending Traffic, Never Ending Problem

Never ending traffic, Never ending problem

Philippine’s population as of January 1, 2016 is 104, 280, 890[1] and still counting. There had been an increase of 1.90% of our population compared to last year’s record. Overpopulation in our country is the root cause of the tremendous traffic congestion all over the country. However, we cannot deal directly with the root cause of the economic issue because according to the substantive due process in our Constitution, persons have their right to life, liberty and property[2]. Thus, the government needs to have a sustainable plan to resolve the issue on the transport system in our country.

Our country has different modes of transportation, we have: trains, buses, taxis, fx, jeepneys, and tricycles. One of the major transport problem in our country is our train system. Our matter on the train system is that it is not efficient. The number of trains functioning and the number or commuters is not proportionate. The government should invest on improving our train system because trains can accommodate a lot of people. If our train system is clean, efficient and orderly managed, it may lessen the traffic congestion because it uses electricity and saves time in transportation. However, commuters resort to riding other means of transportation because our train system is a menace. The reports on the news is never complete without a report about a train which met an accident, a sudden stop on the center of the railway or a snake-line of commuters that seems to be never-ending. Another cause of traffic is the passenger buses and jeepneys. The government should put a claw on these two means of transportation because they are the common cause of traffic. Buses and jeepneys are those that always encounter road accidents because they don’t submit theirselves to authority.

The government should plan for a long-term transport system. The matter on our transport system is a serious problem that needs full attention. The MMDA cleared the vendors in EDSA so that vehicles will a have a wider space. Buses were given their designated area to fetch their passengers. The MMDA Chairman is also changed. These are some solutions made to improve the traffic congestion in our country. Unfortunately, none of these made easement in our transportation, traffic gets worse everyday. People waste time in traffic instead of devoting their time to their families. These issues call out the attention of our government. We must resolve the growing issue of transportation because if we continue to implement short-term solutions, the problem will just pile up and will give us a greater problem to solve. We must invest our time, attention, effort, and money to important matters that would affect our country.
