My President for the 2016 Election

Aside from the requirements in our Constitution, I have several criteria in considering a presidential aspirant. First is competency which is about the knowledge, skills and personality or character. Second is the accomplishment or what he has done beneficial to the people. Third is the plan or the direction he wants to take for the country.

For the competency, I want someone who is knowledgeable about the law and the needs of the people. I want someone who has strong leadership and decision making skills. I want someone who uses reasoning in making decisions. These skills come from experiences. I am inclined to someone who can show sympathy to the people but at the same time firm, courageous and strong-willed.

For the accomplishment, I want someone who has implemented or spearheaded projects which are directly felt by ordinary people.

For the future plans or the direction he wants to take for the country, I want someone who will prioritize education, small to medium enterprises, public health, infrastructures and prevent graft and corruption in our government.

After having a closer look to the aspirants’ history and platforms, one of them catches my heart and attention.

This presidential aspirant has an excellent educational background. Being a mayor for several years, an appointee as Chairman of HUDCC and head of the Task Force OFW clearly show that he has skills needed for a leader and that he has accomplished a lot. He is also known to be sympathetic and strong-willed.

This candidate visualizes a pro-poor and pro-business administration in 2016. He is determined to prevent corruption in our government, to aid small businesses in accessing capital and provide guidance, and to provide adequate education.[1] He also plans to re-design the transportation system, build more infrastructures, and improve public hospitals.[2]

I am saying yes to a man who is competent, accomplished and have high hopes for our beloved country. I am entrusting the next six years of the Philippines to Honorable Jejomar Binay.
