This is a question that has been making the rounds in
both Mass Media and Social media in recent weeks as many of the presidential
aspirants are making their presence felt in both platforms and informing as
many members of the voting population that they can signifying their intention
of vying for the highest elective position in our Government. Which begs the
question for me as a member of that voting population who will soon exercise my
right to suffrage: Who am I voting for as President?
From among the presidentiables I could say that none
of them are strangers to me. I am as informed as a layman as could be, perhaps slightly
a bit more since I do like to keep myself abreast with current events as my
schedule would permit me to do so, that none of those candidates are unfamiliar
to me. I do know that all of them, although some have more than the others,
have experience in the political field and none are entering the race without
any. Some are quick to flaunt what they have already done in their political careers
while others like to build on reputation and promise on what kind of government
we should be expecting if they get the win. So I guess the question now is how
do I select the president I want to vote for?
In all honesty my choice for the president for now is
not yet cast in stone. As many of the voters I would presume would be right now
is that I am also still undecided as to whom my vote would go as far as the
presidency is concerned. But if the election were to happen today and I would
need to make a choice my vote would go to former DILG secretary Manuel “Mar”
Roxas II.
To justify my choice I would like to start with the
words of former President Manuel L. Quezon who once said that “6 years as
president is too short for a good one and too long for a bad one”. With that my
hope for the next president is that he or she plans to be a good one which
should be the case for each of our choices. With a term as short as a single 6
year one I think the best president that could best make it a good one is a
president that would build his administration with the idea of continuity
behind it. Different from the rest of the candidates Mar Roxas is the only one
who is not aiming to discredit the current administration. With many problems
left to be solved once the new administration takes over I think it is best for
the new administration to build on the good things that the previous
administration did rather than starting from scratch and discontinue the
progress that has been made. I believe voters should start to think that the
glass is half full and not focus on what the current administration fell short
on. It is sad that in is somewhat innate in us Filipinos to have that crab
mentality and try to pull down others in order to get ahead which really has
not helped us at all. And with the growing and multiplying issues in our
country today rather than bashing on our government and those who are seated we
should try to help them the best way we could. And that is the platform the Mar
Roxas administration would be on if he does win the presidency. I believe
continuity is the best way to go in order to maximize the output the next administration
will put forth. I know it is really hard to not focus on the shortcomings of
the current administration but inevitably those concerns will be addressed
regardless of who will be seated as President. The only difference is that Mar
is the only one who is not aiming to erase from the memories the current
administration but rather build on what the current administration started on
and at the same time address the pressing concerns of our country. I believe
the current administration has a laid out plan for all the issues that is
facing the government today but with their short term already about to expire the
next best thing and the most efficient way for us to resolve those issues and
to assure ourselves that those will be carried out is we select an
administration that will promise us to continue and build on what the current
administration has done.
That is my choice for president for now. Who is yours?
