The Third Female President

I have not really put much thought on whom to vote. But I am greatly leaning towards Miriam Defensor-Santiago.

I am not voting for her because of her outrageous antics but because every time she makes these snide comments, she makes sense. While women in our society are more reserved and repressed, I find her boldness and honesty quite amusing. We should take her as a good example for getting what needs to be done without beating around the bush. She is exactly the opposite of most of us and it makes it all more interesting.

Honestly, I have not finished reading her book “Stupid is Forever.” But scanning through the first few pages, I can already tell from her jokes, though some were borrowed, some were really hinting on how she sees the Congress specifically the Lower House. Just like in most of her privilege speeches in the Senate where she would courageously call out on her fellow senators whom she finds guilty of illegally using government funds for personal consumption.

As for her credentials, I do not think anyone is in the position to question them. She is already accomplished as a student, lawyer, writer, judge and as a politician. She believes she has been robbed of the opportunity to become the leader of this country in the 1992 presidential race. This, I believe will serve as reason for her to lead better if given a chance to be a president. After all, they say it is sweeter the second time around.

Her advocacies always include the children-their education and safety, women-their welfare and health, country-peace and order. Of course other candidates will somewhat have the same ideas. But Miriam is already miles away in achieving these. She has authored and sponsored many laws to continue her agendas. I am not voting for her because I am left with no choice nor because I see her as less evil compared to her opponents. She has served all three government branches and during those times, she did not just occupy a seat but also moved about to give justice to her appointments as Secretary, Commissioner and Judge.

Sadly, she is not in good condition right now. People are even speculating that she is not revealing the public her real health state. I still see her from time to time granting radio interviews and book signing and she is as feisty as ever. While it is true that health is very important in considering a leader, she is in remission right now, which means she is in good condition. Therefore she is capable of leading this country towards improvement and success.

To this date, we already have had two female presidents. I am willing to vote another female because I see in her the traits and vindication I never saw from the two previous female leaders. If she wins, her battle against corruption and oppression will set us off to a good start.
