Santiago: The Fruit Bearing Tree

The presidential race is on, and every voter has their own criteria on choosing the right candidate for the highest position in the executive department.
For the last 23 years of my life I have witnessed how hard it is to live in the Philippines under elected politicians which blossoms during campaign but fail to bear fruits upon election. With regard to this experience, I have learned that campaigning politicians are like trees that blossom beautiful flowers but will fail to bear the essential fruits this nation was expecting.
On 2016 elections, I will have the chance to choose the tree that I believe would bare the fruits this nation will need even though as of now, that tree is still not even flowering yet. That tree I am taking about is Miriam Defensor- Santiago. Defensor – Santiago as far as I remember, once failed on her race to the highest, essential and most powerful seat in the executive department. Defensor-Santiago was defeated during a controversial election on 1992, that time I am still not aware of what is happening but as far as my parents remember after a series power outage a new president was elected and it was Fidel V. Ramos.  I think that time was not her time to be the president.
On the upcoming 2016 elections for me, Defensor-Santiago is more than ready to take the presidential seat on every aspect and requirement may it be in the constitution, experience, maturity and knowledge. She among the presidential candidate was the only candidate who served on all the 3 major branch of the government which for me is a big plus on expierience. Aside for knowing her as a senator, she was once a judge on the international criminal court. Comparing her credentials to other the presidential candidate Defensor-Santiago will definitely stand out among the others. She is more than capable of leading the Philippines during these situations we have right now. These are the reasons why I think this country will need her.
I can already feel the blossoming of other trees of should I call “candidates” even though the official campaigning period has not started at all. Those trees for me are all ornamental but will never bear the fruits that my beloved Philippines will eat.
